“CANAKKALE ON MY MIND” SMART CITY TRANSFORMATION JOURNEY CONTINUES: CANAKKALE and TARRAGONA CITY of SPAIN HAVE BEEN SMART CITY TWINS!

The Municipality of Canakkale was awarded by the grant of "Town Twinning Action between Turkey and EU Grant Scheme (TTGS)” with the project called “Partnership For Future of Smart Cities”. The program aims create sustainable structures // Turkey and the City between the EU to promote change in the areas related to EU membership through twinning action of the cities between local authorities in EU member states and local authorities in Turkey.
It is a great pleasure to have supported this call and the Project right from its beginning by matching the city of Tarragona and Canakkale within the 2nd phase of “Canakkale on My Mind” Project that aims to contibute to the transformation of Canakkale to a liveable and sustainable city and increase the competitiveness level locally and internationally.
The project that was signed between Canakkale and Tarragona, was held at the Parion Hotel on 12 March with a wide participation. Mayor Ulgur Gokhan, Tarragona Deputy Mayor Begonia Florian, Tarragona Smart City Platform Director General Gustavo Cuadrado, Turkey Informatics Foundation Board member Berrin Benli, Kale Group Head of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs, Novusens Institute of Smart Cities founders, local institutions and representatives, academicians, alderman, chambers and non-governmental organizations of Canakkale participated to the launch meeting.
The project aims to improve the collaboration between the Municipality of Çanakkale and the Municipality of Tarragona, to implement the Smart City Platform by referencing to the Tarragona case, and to develop long-term cooperation and design joint projects in order to carry forward the advanced smart city transformation of both cities.
After the opening speeches of Canakkale Mayor, Tarragona Deputy Mayor and Tarragona Smart City Platform Director, on behalf of Turkey Informatics Foundation as of its Board Member, and as Novusens Smart City Institute, Ms. Benli delivered a presentation on Smart Cities concept, the benefits of it, Best Practices in the world and in Turkey, and about “Canakkale on My Mind” Smart City Transformation Initiative, stated her pleasure about the official start of the Town Twinning Project between Çanakkale and Tarragona and expressed that they believe this cooperation will contribute to the economic and social development of both cities.
