13-14 February 2019

UK- Prosperity Fund Smart Mobility Project study visit was held on 13-14 February, 2019 in London hosted by UK Transport Systems Catapult (TSC) by the organization of Novusens Smart City Institute.

The visit aimed to establish B2B bilateral collaborations and networking between British and Turkish SMEs organizations and was attended by the Turkish delegation from technopark representatives, academia, NGOs, municipalities and project stakeholders in Smart Mobility field of Turkey representing large business and knowledge networks and clusters.

The first event was held at MOVE’19 International Conference (where most of the Smart Mobility SMEs provided their solutions and resulted in hundreds of SME visits) with the opening of Novusens presentation on smart cities / smart mobility vision, sharing the project objectives and progress.

The meeting attracted the interest of DfT (Department for Transport) Office for Science, represented by Prof Phil Blythe and part of his team, who took part at the meeting, and has shown a clear interest in developing cooperation with Turkey. This interest from DfT is explained also by the fact that TSC will soon merge with Future Cities Catapult, and the need to set up joint teams to work on future mobility in cities and megacities is obvious. The Turkish delegation met with the invited SMEs and exchanged ideas for developing potential collaboration.

The second event was held in Future Cities Catapult in the 2nd day of the trip. The event was chaired by Dr. Delia Dimitriu from TSC to identify potential collaboration areas to develop further as part of this cooperation.

Dr. Delia Dimitriu proposed the setting up of a joint team between British and Turkish organizations to make joint studies thus contributing not only to the knowledge exchanged, but also to the identification of gaps and barriers in implementing solutions for intelligent mobility in smart cities. One of the possible topics for collaboration was to establish better operating models in the transition to 2030/2050 which will address social inclusion as a priority, ‘responsible mobility’, citizen participation in urban mobility.

During closing, Novusens stated that all the proposals made will be reflected to the project report (which will be published by the end of the project) and thanked to TSC for hosting a well-organized event, and the participants for sharing their knowledge and openness for collaboration.
