UK-TURKEY SMART MOBILITY WORKSHOP SUPPORTED BY UK PROSPERITY FUND HELD in ISTANBUL!

UK-Turkey Smart Mobility Workshop was held on 17th of January, 2019 in Istanbul that is being funded by the UK Prosperity Fund (Future Cities programme) executed by Novusens Smart City Institute in collaboration with Transport Systems Catapult, UK.

The Workshop aimed to identify potential areas of collaboration between Turkish and British organizations and strengthen relations and network in the field of Smart Mobility . The workshop was attended by technopark representatives, private companies, academia, municipalities, project stakeholders in Smart Mobility field of Turkey. With the participation of Transport Systems Catapult and Vehicle Technologies senior experts, 16 speakers - high level senior domain experts – of Turkish Smart Mobility field provided very valuable contribution to the workshop. The workshop gathered majority of the ecosystem stakeholders of the Smart Mobility market of Turkey that resulted in very positive feedback.

In his opening speech, Andrew Price, Prosperity Fund program portfolio manager of the British consulate in Istanbul stated that the Prosperity program covers a number of sectors, including improving the business environment and increasing trade and investment opportunities, promoting financial services and financial markets; and developing Future Cities and the transition to a Low Carbon economy. Furthermore he added that ‘this new project aims to bring all key stakeholders, public and private, NGO and Academia to support the smart mobility transformation in Turkey to provide better life for its citizens and we are very glad to have the opportunity to support this project by Novusens Smart City Institute and the UK Transport Systems Catapult.

He also mentioned that ‘we’re a couple of months down the line, it seems like an ideal point to look at progress to date’ by mentioning

  • 1. A network of organizations (public, private – SMEs, NGOs, academia and entrepreneurs) working in the field of smart mobility in Turkey has evolved. The first and very important step of establishing a smart mobility ecosystem in Turkey.
  • 2. Some stakeholders engaged have confirmed that permanent platform on smart mobility is needed. This is a good indicator we are on right path.
  • 3. An online survey has been developed and is being implemented throughout the network. This survey will provide us with up to date data on the current situation, needs, challenges and expectations in the smart mobility market in Turkey.

The Workshop was led by the co-founders of Novusens Smart City Institute (Berrin Benli and Melih Gezer). Benli who chaired the workshop event, stated that “Smart Mobility has always been the top priority area when it comes to smart cities. We are very glad to enable an environment that will spark strong collaborations among Turkish and British organizations (public, private, academic and civil society) by the support of UK Prosperity Fund. We’re looking forward to having lasting and sustainable collaborations between Turkish and British companies”.
